Hot Weather Warning

A level 3 hot weather warning has been issued for this week, with temperatures soaring in parts of England. With this in mind, we’d like to remind you about the importance of looking after yourself, your colleagues and our clients during these difficult conditions.

Extreme heat is dangerous to everyone, but could increase health risks for our clients. For guidance on working shifts in hot weather, please familiarise yourself with the updated NHS hot weather guidance and if you have questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Caring for clients in hot temperatures

To protect our clients during the hot weather, it is essential we do the following:

• Reduce unnecessary travel
• Monitor indoor temperatures four times a day
• Maximise external shading
• Ensure night time ventilation
• Open windows
• Draw curtains
• Ensure clients have easy access to water and keep hydrated

If you are concerned about a client, and you think they may be suffering from heatstroke please call 999 immediately and whilst waiting for the ambulance:

• Continue to monitor the client’s temperature
• If possible, move them somewhere cooler
• Consider offering additional fluids dependant on the client’s condition
• Do not give aspirin or paracetamol

Please stay safe and help us ensure the safety of our clients during this period.
