Awareness Campaigns

Welcome to the dedicated awareness campaigns section of your Compass portal. Here, you can find the previous campaigns we’ve supported and the upcoming ones we will support at Thornbury Community Services (TCS).

At TCS, we’re committed to supporting awareness events throughout the year that celebrate inclusivity and showcase the diversity of our clients, healthcare professionals, and employees.

By raising awareness, we can educate more individuals and call to action the issues each campaign aims to address.

Campaigns we’ve supported this year

Below, you can find out about the key campaigns we’ve supported this year.

Learning Disability Week

17th of June – 23rd of June

Learning Disability Week is a week-long campaign that celebrates the contributions people with learning disabilities make to society. The theme for 2024 was ‘Do you see me?’, which focuses on challenging the barriers people with learning disabilities face and ensuring they are seen, heard, and valued.

We’ve supported this significant campaign and its theme by asking a few of our support workers how they ensure our clients are seen, heard, and valued at TCS and what our clinical leads enjoy most about working in the Learning Disabilities, Autism, and Mental Health Service as a clinical lead.

Take a look below to see if you recognise any of your colleagues or clinical leads.

By listening to our clients, we can communicate more effectively to ensure he has the best quality of life. Over the past year, our clients has visited the cinema every month. We have taught him the months of the year and that he can go to exciting and fun places. We manage any obstacle together to ensure it is an enjoyable experience. We now have a movie board in his home for all the films that come out for the year.

– Oliver, Support Worker

An important part of my role at TCS is ensuring our client has a voice. This means finding creative and bespoke ways to share their thoughts and feelings. We use many tools to support this, including written language dictionaries, social stories, and creating a video for the client around communication. It is incredible how much the client’s communication has improved during my time caring for him, and I cannot wait to find new ways to help him communicate more and share his thoughts with us.

– Katie, Support Worker

I love my role as an RNLD Clinical Lead because it allows me to support our clients in the community and oversee their care delivered by our passionate healthcare professionals. I witness our clients lead a better quality of life under the supervision of the TCS teams, and it’s incredibly rewarding.

– Ian, Clinical Lead

What makes me proud to be a Learning Disability Nurse and an RNLD Clinical Lead at TCS is that I play an active role in changing people’s lives. My role allows me to take a holistic view of our clients and create bespoke action plans to enable them to maximise their full potential.

– Stephen, Clinical Lead

Pride

1st of June – 30th of June

Pride takes place yearly to pay tribute to the 1969 Stonewall Riots and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, their achievements and contributions to history worldwide.

The month-long event brings people together through parades, marches and discussions to provide LGBTQ+ individuals, friends, family and loved ones to come together to celebrate, share stories and raise awareness.

International Nurses Day

12th of May

International Nurses Day celebrates nurses globally and acknowledges their achievements and contributions. The campaign takes place every year on the 12th of May to coincide with Florence Nightingale’s birthday. This year’s theme was ‘The economic power of care’, which focuses on raising awareness of how investing in nursing can provide many economic and societal benefits worldwide.

To celebrate our community nurses on International Nurses Day emails were sent on Sunday 12th of May, wishing them a very happy International Nurses Day and thanking them for the ‘Outstanding’ CQC-rated care they deliver to our clients in the community.

For nurses who worked 50+ shifts with us, they will have received personalised emails highlighting the hours of care they’ve delivered to our clients in the community since they first joined us.
