TCS Learning Disabilities, Autism and Mental Health quarterly newsletter

Introducing your new TCS newsletter

We’re delighted to welcome you to the very first edition of our TCS learning disabilities, autism (LDA) and mental health (MH) newsletter.

As part of our continued commitment to providing a world-class service to you, you will receive a newsletter from TCS once every quarter. The newsletter will include the latest updates and key information, and useful guidance to support your world-class career with us.

The quarterly newsletters provide an opportunity to reflect and celebrate the exceptional work you and your colleagues have achieved in the previous quarter and how you have played a vital role in supporting adults and children to live safe and fulfilling lives in their own homes and local communities.

A message from our Head of Service

Hello, I’m Nikki, Head of Service for the TCS Learning Disabilities, Autism and Mental Health Services.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for all of your hard work, dedication and delivery of ‘Outstanding’ CQC-rated care to our clients in the community. Everyone at TCS is incredibly grateful for your continuous commitment and passion you display in your roles every day.
The last quarter of 2023 was a great success, and we saw many of our clients achieve personal goals, learn new hobbies and skills and visit their local communities, and you played a very important role in making this happen.
The knowledge, passion and expertise you bring to your role supports TCS to work towards our vision to ‘Be the leading provider of world-class care services across the UK and Ireland’. We are on a journey together to achieve this, and you are essential in making this happen.
Thank you for everything you’ve done so far. Please know your commitment to our clients and the person-centred care and support you deliver does not go unmissed. We look forward to another successful quarter and sharing the highlights with you in our next quarterly newsletter.

Hours of care delivered to our clients

After a very successful quarter 4 in 2023, we want to take this opportunity to reflect and celebrate the care you delivered to our clients, share feedback from a client’s family and a good news story about one of our clients from our Learning Disabilities, Autism and Mental Health Services.

The difference you make

We want to share with you some feedback we received from a client’s family following the Christmas break, which truly highlights the exceptional work and dedication of our healthcare professionals.

Christmas is an important time for our clients and their families and to receive feedback like this really showcases the positive impact you have in our clients lives and how it truly makes a difference.

Supporting your wellbeing

Your wellbeing is important to us, and we want to ensure you’re receiving the best possible support to enable you to have a meaningful career at TCS.

As part of our commitment to you, we offer confidential wellbeing calls with our Supervisions and Appraisals Team, who are registered nurses that have worked in the same setting as you for some time and are fully aware of what support we can provide and the challenges of working within the complex care setting.

All calls and personal details will be confidential unless there is a risk to your safety or to others. If you would like to book a confidential wellbeing call with the team, please click the button below.

Latest guidelines and updates

To ensure you have the latest guidance, updates and information to support you in your role, we have created this dedicated section of the newsletter. Please read the information below to learn about the latest updates.

Safety updates

Your safety and the safety of our clients are our top priority. That’s why we’re committed to providing you with the latest industry safety information to support you in your role. There have been several safety updates from the Medicines & Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and the British National Formulary (BNF). Please take the time to read through these updates by selecting from the buttons below.

We have seen an increase in medication incidents in the previous quarter relating to incorrect frequency of medication administration or incorrect dosage of medication. This is particularly relevant when clients have frequent medication changes.

Please be extremely vigilant in your medication management and if a medication is unclear, please contact your Clinical Lead or Out of Hours Team for support. There is additional medication guidance training available on Compass.

Digital Nurse Logs (DNL)

We are excited to announce that electronic MAR charts are coming to DNL to support safe medication management. Your clinical lead will be in contact when your package is transitioning over.

Since the implementation of DNL, our teams have been busy creating helpful resources to support you to feel confident using the new system in your role.

There is a full step-by-step video guide on Compass showing you how to use DNL during your shifts. The video guide is split into steps so you can skip to your required step on using DNL.

We appreciate this is a change to how you manage our clients’ care and keep them safe in the community. However, the digital recording system ensures you have the right technology to help you deliver world-class care to our clients.

If you have any queries about the new digital recording system, please email our team here or reach out to your clinical lead with any questions or concerns you have.

Travel and mileage

Your safety and wellbeing are of the utmost importance to us, and we want to ensure you can travel to and from your shifts safely and get paid on time for your completed shifts and mileage expenses. Please read the below guidance around travel and mileage.

Changes to your home address

To ensure your mileage claims are authorised and paid on time, we need to have your correct home address on file.

If there are any changes to your home address, please contact your care coordinator using the details below, and they will be able to support you.

Travelling from a different address to shifts

We understand there maybe circumstances where you are travelling from a different address to your shift. If this is the case, please make your care coordinator aware (using the contact details above) before your shift begins so we can make sure your mileage is approved.

As part of our efforts to do more to support your wellbeing and safety, we will routinely be looking at ways in which we can minimise travel time.

Your timesheets

We’re committed to ensure that you are paid on time for all the shifts you complete in the community. To support you to complete your timesheet correctly, we have created a step-by-step video guide on completing your timesheet, along with FAQs about TCS timesheets.

What can I expect working in a TCS clinical lead role?

To give you an idea of what to expect working as a TCS RNLD/RMN clinical lead, two of our very own clinical leads, Olivia and Arianwen, share some details about their roles.

Working as a clinical lead at TCS, it’s our responsibility to ensure our nurses and support workers are skilled, competent and passionate about delivering care to our clients in different environments. Our roles require us to be proactive and reactive at all times. We will assess all and any risks for the clients, both positive and negative, ensuring they are achievable in safe and secure environments. We are there to support our nurses, support workers, HCAs, clients and their families whenever they need us.
